23rd Cim – Dingyou - of the Fire Element favoring Summer – The South is blessed

Oh how I wish to go to the Yangtze, but its waters are vast,

Much like the future, unpredictable and lacking in fortune,

Despite my hands holding the fishing rod,

I still feel that the fish may not be frequenting these waters.


Intepretation:

A person wishes to fish at the Yangtze River, but sees instead a vast body of water, giving him a sense of bewilderment about his future and not knowing where to start. He could only hold his fishing rod and wait for the opportunity, fearing that the fish may not be in these waters. This is a poem metaphorically illustrating the relationship between a lord and his subordinate, or the relationship between married couples. Fishing is used as an allegory for obtaining fame or fortune. Hence, recipients of these cim should know that pleas for academic success may not be answered and talented individuals may not receive ideal work. As of now, there is little chance for gaining recognition, and time would be needed for a better opportunity.

For pleas for wealth and fortune, now may not be the most ideal moments.

For inquiries on traveling, there may be little to profit from the venture.

For inquiries on moving, know that it is not advised.

For pleas of marital matters, if you have a person in mind, then don’t let go. Do not wait till the fish is gone. There was one incident in which a believer asked for a sign from Mazu’s temple and received this cim. She was asked if she had a person in mind. When she answered no, the Lady asked her to look for suitors on the newspaper, for one needs to fish to catch fish. The believer went ahead with this plan, and promptly received the inquiry of many good suitors.

For pleas of legal matters, a reverse followed by a victory.

For ailments, stable health will be provided for all.

For pregnancy inquiries, a boy will be born.

General affairs should not be undertaken; fortune will go to the harmonious ones. Undertakings should be delayed. Family affairs will see a loss of fortune and wealth in the household. Family fortune will face many difficulties. Marital affairs will be greatly favored. Pleas for children shall not be made. Pregnancies will result in a boy (should the mother be weak, then a girl will be born followed by a boy). Pleas for wealth will first encounter a loss followed by fortune. Pleas for academic success will not be answered. The Age Lords are in harmony. Ailments will see a loss of funds, with recovery after the end of the month. Travelers should put off their trips. Business undertakings will see a drastic reverse. Visitors will arrive at on the Day of Wei (mid-month). Shipping would not see good fortunes. Moving will not be favored and should be postponed. Lost items would not be recovered. Pleas for rain will be answered between the two crescent moons. Legal affairs will result in a victory (though money must be spent). Farm animals must not be collected. The crops have missed their time and will bring in poor profits. Construction should not be carried out and must be postponed. Burials and resting places will not be in favorable grounds. Fishermen will face poor luck. Fisheries should look out for fish loss and look for minor profits. Hatcheries will receive a small return in a few days. The monthly commands will not be as expected. Lost persons will be found after a period. Letters from afar will not arrive.
